Celebrating the life of

Samuel Hunter McLaughlin

December 25, 1933 - September 23, 2023

Samuel Hunter McLaughlin

Samuel Hunter McLaughlin, 89, died peacefully at Hospice Savannah on September 23.  He was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Beaver Falls most of his younger life. Sam attended Penn State University and after graduation, enlisted in the US Navy serving on carriers during the Korean War.  While stationed in Hawaii he met Barbara Davidson on a blind date. They were married in 1959 in her hometown of Windsor, Ontario Canada.

A major part of his career was spent with MetLife, serving in various Marketing and Sales positions.   During that time, Sam and Barbara lived in Connecticut, leaving Greenwich and relocating to The Landings in 1995.

As a couple, Sam and Barb were active in the Savannah community volunteering and planning social events. Sam served many organizations; he was on the board of the Navy League, President of Kiwanis Club of Skidaway, Board Member of the Savannah Symphony and a member of The Landings Club, the Landings Automobile Society and the Skidaway Island Methodist Church.

Sam enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, driving his Corvette and when Barb was alive, Sam was actively involved with The One Hundred Children’s Foundation and the Savannah Philharmonic.  Sam was predeceased by Barbara who died in 2021 and whom he missed terribly.  Their two children, Nancy and Curtis each died tragically.

A service is planned for Monday, October 2nd at 10:30 at the Skidaway Island Methodist Church with burial in the Memorial Garden.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church, Kiwanis Club of Skidaway or the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum.

I did not know Sam as I am a new member of the Kiwanis Club. However, I am so saddened that I will not get to know him. He, obviously, made a huge impression on our club and community. My condolences to his friends and family.
